Technology and Smart management of microclimates for the adaptation to a changing climate in the Macaronesian Macro region and Third African Countries
MICROCLI-MAC is an innovative project under the INTERREG MAC 21-27 Programme, aimed at improving the management of meteorological diversity across the Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, and Ghana.
The primary goal of this project is to enhance the resilience of the countries and regions of the cooperation space in the face of the challenges of climate change by improving their capacities to manage extreme weather, and the interaction between micro-climates and physical activity/effort for recreation and outdoor sports. This ensures that expected changes do not impact the attractiveness and competitiveness of tourism systems or the well-being of the population.
Using advanced technology, we provide an intuitive tool for residents and tourists to select the best locations for their activities based on weather conditions and physical fitness. Additionally, we support adverse weather alert systems, enhancing their effectiveness and adaptability.
MICROCLI-MAC focuses on three key areas:
- Improving meteorological information and forecasting to address microclimate diversity and its impact on outdoor activities.
- Systematizing knowledge on the relationship between extreme weather, physical activity, and health to optimise alerts and activity adaptation.
- Developing technology to improve decision-making for outdoor activities based on weather forecasts and individual conditions.
